RCA conference and AGM set to start

The Recycling Council of Alberta (RCA) will host its 2003 Waste Reduction Conference with the theme “Come Together” at the Sheraton Cavalier Hotel in Calgary Oct 1 to 3.

This year’s conference will feature tours of the Airdrie Environmental Education Centre and the NewAlta Processing Facility, and two keynote addresses.

Mogens Smed of Evans Consoles Inc. will speak at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct.2. Mogens founded SMED Manufacturing, which rose to become a $300-million company with a strong corporate environmental ethic, from design to procurement and waste reduction.

Paul Kelley of Community Natural Foods will speak at 10:45 a.m. on Friday, Oct.3. Paul has demonstrated his personal commitment to reducing his personal environmental impact by living in a tipi near Calgary for a year. Paul will discuss how the personal choices we make in our daily lives can crossover into the corporate world.

Other conference topics include composting, industrial / commercial waste, biodegradable plastics, recycling at special events, national updates, and more.
