UPS, the world’s largest package delivery company, has recently managed to reduce environmental impacts of its operations as well as identify trends to help save time and money. UPS just completed a three-month reengineering of its preventive maintenance process for its 70,000 delivery vehicles.
The results include improved methods for mechanics, the reduction of oil usage and disposal by 312.43 litres each year and savings of almost US$3-million annually.
According to UPS Automotive Engineering Vice President Ron Kirby the company has shown that significant environmental gains can be made by focusing on quality maintenance methods, including maintenance procedures to reduce fuel consumption and oil usage, to result in lower emissions.
