Lori Scozzafava has been appointed to the newly created position of Deputy Executive Director as announced today by John H. Skinner, Ph.D., Executive Director and CEO of the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA). Scozzafava, who joined SWANA in July of 1999, was previously Director of Technical Programs for SWANA.

In her new role, Scozzafava will be responsible for developing the association’s Annual Program Plan and Budget and will assist Skinner in the general management of the association, as well as in representing the association externally.

In her role as Director of Technical Programs, Scozzafava has been responsible for directing the development and implementation of SWANA’s training and education programs, as well as the association’s annual technical symposia. Scozzafava was also recently elected to the Maryland Recyclers Coalition Board of Directors. Before coming to SWANA, Scozzafava was Division Manager for the Recycling Services Division of the Maryland Department of the Environment. Scozzafava holds an MBA from the University of Maryland, as well as a B.A. in Environmental Science from Bucknell University.

"This promotion will give SWANA the flexibility, energy and resources necessary to move our association into the next decade and beyond," commented Skinner. "I am excited to have Lori on board in her new role, and look forward to continuing to work with her as well as the entire SWANA staff as we grow our association."

"I am very excited to begin this new phase at SWANA," commented Scozzafava. "I look forward to growing with the association as we continue to expand on our E-Business initiative and identify new opportunities to enhance the benefits and services we offer to our members and the solid waste community as a whole."
