Event merges waste with sustainability

In a combined event, the Coast Waste Management Association (CWMA) merged with the “Your Business and the Environment” (YBE) Series to produce this year’s biggest solid waste and recycling related event in British Columbia. Over 140 people attended the CWMA/YBE conference held October 22-24.

In its inaugural partnership, CWMA and the All About Canada Foundation (Victoria, BC) came together to present sessions on both waste reduction and the business of sustainability. The conference was kicked off by the Hon. Joyce Murray, Minister of Water, Land and Air Protection, and featured 40 speakers including Al Metauro, President and CEO of the Metro Group of Companies; Coro Strandberg, former chair of Canada’s largest credit union, VanCity; Judy Brownoff, Chair of the Capital Regional District (Victoria); and Rick Searle, television personality and environmental consultant.

Reviews were very positive. Bonnie Segger of Harper’s Recycling said, “You did an excellent job of the conference. Everyone I talked to was very impressed.” The two groups will consider co-producing more events in the future.
