Ontario’s 1994 Environmental Bill of Rights (EBR) is a critically important legal tool for protecting the environment and ensuring prompt government action to prevent environmental harm. To date, the EBR is credited with helping to:
Develop a long-term strategy to protect the Oak Ridges Moraine;
Undertake a comprehensive review of hazardous waste management in Ontario; and
Review citizen concerns about toxic emissions from Hamilton’s SWARU incinerator.
As Environmental Commissioner of Ontario, Gord Miller is responsible for monitoring EBR compliance by Ontario’s provincial ministries. In this special joint breakfast meeting of ONEIA and Environmental Finance 2004 Workshop, attendees will hear the findings and highlights of the Commissioner’s 2003-2004 Annual Report to the Ontario Legislature.
Also, on November 23, 2004 (tbc), ONEIA will hold an Annual Environmental Industry Day at Queen’s Park. Mark your calendars.
