Capital acquires Waste Services
Capital Environment Resources Inc. has agreed to buy Waste Services Inc. of Ottawa, worth $25.3-million — making it the second-largest waste-collection and landfill company in Canada. Capital has also agreed to buy Premier Waste, a landfill operator in Vancouver, B.C. The acquisitions will increase the company’s annual revenue to $160-million, compared with the $800-million in sales of Canadian Waste Services Inc., Canada’s largest waste management firm.Capital is a regional, integrated provider of collection, transfer, disposal and recycling services. The company was founded in May 1997 in order to take advantage of consolidation opportunities in the solid waste industry in markets other than major urban centers in Canada and the northern United States.Capital completed its initial public offering in June 1999 and its common stock is listed on the NASDAQ Small Cap Market.
