Global carton manufacturers Evergreen Packaging, Tetra Pak and Elopak, along with Tropicana Products, Inc., a division of PepsiCo, Inc. (NYSE: PEP), and Dean Foods Company, whose brands include T.G. Lee Dairy, Horizon Organic and Silk, have announced a new recycling initiative to help residents in Hillsborough, Manatee, Pinellas and Sarasota counties go green and reduce waste. Through this new partnership, and in collaboration with Waste Management, Inc. (NYSE: WMI), local residents can easily recycle orange juice, milk, soy, broth and other beverage cartons by placing them in their recycling bins as part of their curbside recycling program, at no additional cost.

“Tropicana is dedicated to minimizing its impact on the earth and making it easy for consumers to do their part through recycling and waste reduction initiatives,” said Andrew Hartshorn, senior marketing manager, Tropicana Products, Inc. “We applaud Waste Management for leading the charge in expanding carton recycling in the Tampa Bay area and partnering with us to help provide new ways for residents to reduce waste.”

Currently, 58 million Americans about 19 percent of the U.S. population have access to curbside carton recycling.* In the Tampa Bay area, not all residents have access to carton recycling. However, November 3 this partnership expanded recycling capabilities to allow residents in Hillsborough, Manatee, Pinellas and Sarasota counties to recycle all beverage containers, including juice, milk, soy and broth cartons.

“We’re proud to help make recycling beverage cartons easy for consumers throughout the Tampa Bay area,” said Robert Dishman, director for Waste Management Recycle America. “As the largest residential recycler in North America, we’re committed to growing recycling in Tampa and throughout the country. Through these programs we expect to triple the amount of recyclables we process from 8 million to 20 million tons by 2020.”

Through this expanded recycling initiative, residents can simply place beverage cartons in their recycling bins, and they will be picked up and recycled at no additional charge to consumers.

“We believe partnering with our communities means not just supporting them today, but sustaining them for tomorrow,” said Bill Giovanetti, general manager, T.G. Lee Dairy, LLC. “We’re proud to provide consumers with this opportunity to get involved and help sustain their community through these increased recycling efforts.”
