Mark your calendars! The 2009 Waste Minimization Awards will be presented by the Recycling Council of Ontario (RCO) on Thursday, October 22, 2009 at the Atlantis Pavilions in Ontario Place (955 Lakeshore Road, Toronto).

Nominations are now open.

There’s a new look to the awards this year and we invite those who will participate and those who are merely curious to visit the RCO website and look around. Our ability to bring this progressive measure to the awards process can be credited to c-Seven Media Inc., our site development partner who has created an easy-to-use web space where each registered user can prepare a presentation.

Why Participate

For more than 25 years the Recycling Council of Ontario, in partnership with the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, has hosted the Ontario Waste Minimization Awards, a celebratory event that recognizes leadership and innovation in waste reduction and elimination.

The RCO awards have a ‘third party’ independence from other membership or association based recognitions programs that make it meaningful in a broad spectrum of industrial, commercial and institutional (IC&I) sectors, as well as with municipalities and community programs.

There are four levels of achievement in the awards, ranging from Bronze for entry level scores to Platinum for those who achieve at the highest levels on the scoring grid. Regardless of achievement levels, all participants are ‘waste reduction champions’ merely by their willingness to submit an application to the rigorous scrutiny that has become a hallmark of the RCO process. The benefits are many, not only for garnering recognition from peers and the public, but also for the opportunity to join the brain trust of enlightened organizations that have made the environment a top priority and who are happy to share best practices with others who aspire to higher diversion goals and ultimately, to stewardship.

If your organization holds that progressive philosophy, then make it a point to register for the 2009 Ontario Waste Minimization Awards and join the other waste reduction leaders during the gala festivities on October 22nd.
