The Municipal Waste Integration Network (mwin) held its annual conference and AGM June 9-11 in Markham, Ontario. The event, entitled “Winning the Waste Game,” was deemed a success by delegates who enjoyed the professional program and networking opportunities.

Unique to this year’s event was a pig roast that was held in the hotel courtyard. Another feature of the conference was the afternoon format on July 10 in which delegates sat at various tables and worked through specific municipal waste issues with guidance from facilitators assigned to each table. Notes were made on flip charts, which were posted around the room and summarized at the end of the day for the benefit of all. People seemed to enjoy playing “The Waste Game” — a board game that Solid Waste & Recycling magazine Editor Guy Crittenden designed and manufactured specifically for the conference.

Next year’s event will be held June 15 and 16, 2005 in Kitchener-Waterloo.
