Terracycle picks up lighting recycling specialist

TerraCycle US Inc. has acquired Massachusetts-based Complete Recycling Solutions (CRS). CRS specializes in recycling mercury-containing fluorescent bulbs, battery, ballast and electronic waste disposal.

Established in 2002, Complete Recycling Solutions specializes in the recycling of lighting and electronic waste, including all mercury-bearing lamps, electronics and cathode ray tubes (CRT’s), mercury devices, batteries, PCB and Non-PCB Lighting ballasts.

CRS operates a processing facility in Fall River, Massachusetts and a consolidation facility in Somerset, New Jersey, which allows it to serve the mid-Atlantic region. CRS provides recycling services, transportation, and packaging supplies to a wide variety of customers including utilities, schools, hospitals and Fortune 500 companies.

“We entered the universal waste business in the U.S. in 2016 with the acquisition of Air Cycle Corporation, now TerraCycle Regulated Waste,” said TerraCycle CEO Tom Szaky. “With Complete Recycling, which will continue to be led by former owner Keith Boyea, we inherit a business known for excellent and versatile customer service, and recycling facilities that can serve both of our U.S. businesses.”

With over 50 years of combined industry experience among their staff, CRS has earned the Responsible Recycling Standard for Electronics Recyclers certification from the EPA (R2 Certification), as well as state of the art lamp recycling and mercury distillation equipment that automatically disassembles various lamp types into their basic components and allows them to be re-used in the marketplace.

“TerraCycle is the perfect partner and shares our mission to provide state-of-the-art solutions for the recycling lighting and electronics waste,” Boyea said. “Together, with our combined resources we will have greater access to expand the reach of our platforms, expand our collective customer base and bring a broader range of services to the businesses we serve.”
